This very hardy ornamental shrub blooms with green-yellow plumes. As a smaller shrub (pruning the old branches for 1/3 in May), it can easily be combined with other perennials. If you allow him to reach adult height (do not prune), he must stand solitary. You can also keep it lower (60 cm) by pruning it back to the ground every year. However, he will then no longer give flowers. The shrub has very attractive purple-red leaves. The moment the leaves get older, they get a golden edge. After flowering, the flower stems continue to grow, so that you see a sort of fluffy forest above the leaves in the summer. The fall color varies from yellow to red. It is best to place the shrub in a sheltered spot since it is naturally a Mediterranean plant.
